Spiked Hot Apple Cider is the perfect drink to warm you up on cold winter days. Just heat up apple cider in the microwave, add a dash of spice, some rum & you’ll be warm as toast in no time!
When it’s cold outside, all I usually want to do is curl up on the couch with a good book, sip on something hot and flavorful, preferably with a little something added in for, ummm, flavor, and just relax. Now, truthfully, there is not a lot of time to do that so I take advantage of it when I can. And it is one of those drinks, with just the right amount of sweetness and spice, that seems to warm me up from the inside out.
This is also a favorite with kids when they’re cold and wet from playing in the snow. Just heat it up, leave out the rum or bourbon (just sayin’), add a candy peppermint or cinnamon stick for more ohhs and ahhhs and they’ll feel toasty again in no time.
Spiked Hot Apple Cider
- 16-oz apple cider
- 1/8 teaspoon allspice
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 3-4 ounces rum or bourbon
- 2 cinnamon sticks
In a microwave-safe 4-cup measuring cup, heat apple cider, allspice and cloves until hot, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in rum (which makes the drink sweeter) or bourbon (which gives it more of an edge) and pour into 2 mugs. Place a cinnamon stick in each mug and garnish with a slice of apple.
Makes 2 servings.
