Homemade pear butter is sweet and full of cozy fall flavor. Made with fresh pears, warm spices, and a slow simmer, it's perfect for bread, pancakes and gift giving.
5lbspearscore, chop (leave on peel for more flavor)(you will need about 10 medium or 15 small pears)
⅓cupbrown sugar
¼cuplemon juice
2teaspoonsground cinnamon
¾teaspoonground ginger
¼teaspoonground nutmeg
¼teaspoonground cloves
2Tablespoonsvanilla paste
Instructions
Place all ingredients in a large saucepan.
Cook over medium-high heat until it comes to a boil. Lower heat and reduce to a simmer. Place a lid on top and set it slightly ajar.
Cook for 1-½ to 2 hours, stirring often, until it starts to thicken. It is done when pear butter will stay mounded on a spoon when slightly cooled.
Leave as is for a chunkier butter or pulse in food processor for a traditional pear butter.

STORE/FREEZEStore pear butter in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.Freeze in freezer-safe jars or containers, leaving a bit of space for expansion, and store for up to 6 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before using.
