Instructions
In a small saucepan, combine the chocolate, milk, heavy cream, and brown sugar. Gently bring to a light simmer until all the chocolate has melted.
Add peppermint extract and stir occasionally until all ingredients are combined. Do not let it come to a boil.
Pour the hot chocolate into a large mug or divide between 2 cups.
Garnish with whipped cream, almond flakes, crushed candy cane, chocolate sauce, or just simply as is. Hang a candy cane on the side for the holidays.
Notes
MAKE AHEADMake the hot chocolate and cool to room temperature before placing it in an airtight container and storing it in the refrigerator. Reheat in a saucepan over low heat.
