I love desserts but I don’t always have the time to spend baking up something that’s delicious and satisfies my sweet tooth. I also don’t like to bake too many full-size desserts because there is only my husband and I. And I don’t think just the two of us should eat a whole pie or cake every week. Just sayin’. So what to do when you want something sweet but want just enough for one?
Funny you should ask! That’s where these yummy, easy to make treats come into the picture from Duncan Hines. All you need is a mug and 3 Tablespoons of water, a microwave and a minute, and you’ll have a warm dessert, delicious breakfast or after school snack in no time! And as you’ll see from my recipe below, there are endless possibilities to make these Duncan Hines Perfect Size for 1 Cake Mixes your own.
The hard part is choosing a flavor! There are so many to choose from and, rest assured, they are all made with simple ingredients with no artificial preservatives or flavors, and the ones I’ve tested taste fantastic!
Are you a chocolate lover? They’ve got you covered with Chocolate Decadent Walnut Brownie Mix, Chocolate Decadent Mocha Cake Mix, Chocolate Lovers Cake and a Brownie mix. If you’re more into fruity flavors, they have Strawberry Shortcake, Lemon Cake and Banana Bread. They even have delicious mixes you can treat yourself with for breakfast, like Cinnamon Coffee Cake, Blueberry Muffin, Chocolate Chip Muffin and, the one I decided to experiment with, Sunrise Cinnamon French Toast Mix. Of course, the kids are going to go crazy when they see there’s a S’mores Cake too (and it’s sooo good)!
Of course, a cake wouldn’t be a dessert without some fantastically rich frosting or decadent drizzle right? Well, Duncan Hines made the perfect size packs of ready-made frosting and drizzle in a convenient squeeze bottle. No need for bags and tips, just squeeze over the Perfect Size for 1 baked cake and you’re ready to dive in. They’ve got both chocolate and vanilla frosting and a really yummy chocolate drizzle. In fact, I’m going to be using this drizzle for my baked bars and cakes in the future. Yep, it’s that good!
When I was approached to write about these convenient cake mixes I was pleased to learn that they carried them at my favorite grocery store, Publix. And they’re easy to find in the baking aisle next to the larger Duncan Hines boxed cake mixes. You can’t miss them! Not only that, they’re currently running a promotion from 7/21/18 through 8/3/18 for a buy any 2 Duncan Hines Perfect Size for 1 Cake mixes and get 1 Duncan Hines Perfect Size for 1 Frosting or Drizzle free. Check it out at the Publix website here.
It was really hard to decide which cake mix to try (although I did sneak in a few other flavors and gave them a taste too), but I opted to share the one that reminded me of my favorite breakfast, French toast. Since French toast takes a bit of time to make, it’s only an occasional treat, so this seemed like a great way to make it happen more often. When I do make French toast, I usually make it with a little liqueur, such as amaretto, cognac or triple sec. So, I thought why not add a little amaretto instead of water into the French toast mix? Wow! It was really, really tasty! I even added some chopped banana that I rolled in cinnamon to the top of the mix and it added another flavor dimension. Needless to say, that breakfast went down really quickly.
I also wanted to make a version that I could eat on a more regular basis and decided on adding an almond coffee creamer to the mix instead of water. Here’s a look at what I finally made and, since my husband was watching me taste test all the results, and could smell all that baking cinnamon, I took pity on him and made him one too.
HOW TO MAKE CINNAMON ALMOND FRENCH TOAST
Gather your ingredients. Yep, that’s all you need!
Pour the dry mix from the pouch into an 8-12-oz mug.
Add 3 Tablespoons of almond creamer. (You can also add regular milk, water, or your favorite alcohol. I tried it with amaretto and cinnamon vodka and I’ll definitely make it that way again).
Place in microwave for 1 minute 10 seconds. Remove and get ready to go crazy!
Top with whipped cream and a drizzle of Duncan Hines Perfect Size for 1 Chocolate Drizzle.
Now pour a little maple syrup over the top.
Sprinkle with almonds and, maybe a few blueberries.
Dive in with your spoon and enjoy. Just look at that moist and tasty bite.
I also started thinking of the endless possibilities of so many delicious and easy to make cakes. Wouldn’t it be awesome to host a Make Your Own “Perfect Size for 1” cake party? I’d set up a bar where everyone would grab a mug and choose one of the cake mix flavors. There would be creamers, liqueurs, juices and water to choose from to add to the mix. Once the cake was baked, they could top it off with a frosting, a drizzle or whipped cream, then sprinkle with their favorite toppings from fruit to nuts, sprinkles to candy.
So what are you waiting for? You’ve got to try these tasty Duncan Hines Perfect Size for 1 Cake mixes and frostings all conveniently located at your nearest Publix.
