    Ingredients for Christmas cheese ball.

Cream Cheese: The creamy base that gives the cheese ball its smooth and rich texture. Make sure it is at room temperature before starting.

Sour Cream: Adds a touch of tanginess and softens the cream cheese to make the cheese ball easier to mix and spread.

Sharp Cheddar Cheese: A classic choice for cheese balls. The shredded cheddar adds a sharp and savory bite that balances out the creaminess.

Ranch Seasoning: Brings that savory and herby flavor to the mix.

Pecans: Chopped pecans add a nice crunch.

Black Olives: Used for the eyes to make the cute reindeer face.

Cherry Tomato: Serves as Rudolph's nose for a bright red addition.

Pretzels: Perfect for creating reindeer antlers.

How to make a reindeer cheese ball

Steps to make holiday cheese ball mixture.
    1. Place the softened cream cheese and sour cream in the large bowl of a stand mixer with a paddle attachment.
    2. Beat until creamy and smooth.
    3. Add shredded cheese and ranch seasoning. Start with 2 tablespoons of the ranch seasoning mix and taste. Add more if you want a stronger flavor. The taste will become stronger as it chills.
    4. Mix well.
Steps to decorate reindeer cheese ball.

    4. Secure the olive eyes and the tomato nose with toothpicks.

You can serve this Christmas appetizer by itself or as an addition to a snack board or charcuterie board. Enjoy!

What to serve with a cheese ball

A cheese ball pairs wonderfully with an array of dippable options!

Crackers are a classic choice. Opt for a mix of buttery, crunchy, and multigrain varieties.

Fresh vegetables like celery sticks, carrot slices, and bell pepper strips add a nice contrast and are great for guests who prefer lighter or low-carb options.

For an extra festive touch, serve with holiday-shaped crackers or pita chips.

    Make ahead

One of the best things about this Reindeer Cheese Ball is that it's make-ahead friendly, perfect for busy holiday schedules.

You can prepare the cheese ball up to 3 days in advance - just shape it and wrap it tightly in plastic wrap before refrigerating.

When you're ready to serve, roll the cheese ball in chopped pecans and add the reindeer decorations.

How to store leftover cheese ball

If you have leftovers, storing them is easy. Wrap the cheese ball tightly in plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container. It will keep well in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

    Ingredients

    • 16 ounces cream cheese (2 blocks) softened at room temperature
    • ⅓ cup sour cream
    • 8 ounces medium cheddar cheese shredded
    • 2-3 Tablespoons ranch seasoning mix
    • 2 cups pecans roughly chopped
    • 2 medium pitted black olives for the eyes
    • 1 cherry tomato for the nose
    • 2 regular sized pretzels for the antlers

    Instructions

    • In the large bowl of an electric mixer, beat the softened cream cheese and sour cream together until smooth.
    • Add the cheddar cheese and ranch seasoning mix and beat until well combined. Begin with two tablespoons of the ranch seasoning mix and taste after it's blended. Add more if you want more flavor. Remember, the flavors will get stronger and meld together as it chills.
    • Pour the cheese ball mixture on top of a large sheet of plastic wrap. Make sure it covers all of the cheese ball then use it to help mold the shape into a ball. Twist it shut and transfer it to the refrigerator for 4-6 hours or overnight for best results. This will allow the cream cheese to harden back up and hold its shape.
    • To assemble: Remove the cheese ball from the refrigerator and transfer to a large platter filled with chopped pecans. Press the pecans into the cheese ball.
    • Add 2 pretzels on top for the antlers, pressing them into the cheese ball until they stand on their own.
    • Add two black olives for the eyes and a cherry tomato for the nose. Use toothpicks to secure the eyes and nose in place.
    • Serve the cheese ball surrounded by crackers.
