Patron Hummer Cocktail
I’m sitting in the airport after a fantastic visit to see my son, wife and grandkids and thinking about today’s post. Before I left, I had been looking through some old recipe cards, yes I still have some, to find something interesting to make. Those recipe cards are of particular sentimental value to me as some are from my mom and grandmother. And what did I find, but a recipe for a cool looking cocktail called a hummer.
I had all the ingredients in my liquor cabinet along with some ice cream in the freezer. Yep, I have ice cream on hand no matter what the weather. I use it for topping desserts, like my Black Forest Crisp or a piece of cherry pie, or just for fill up a bowl for a decadent treat. And it came in handy for making this drink too. See how advantageous it is to have some handy!
This cocktail is more like a dessert drink than a pre-dinner cocktail but I’d even drink it for a nightcap. It’s kind of like a milkshake but only for adults. Sorry kids you’re out of luck with this one!
All it takes is a blender, some ice cream and a few types of liquor including rum, Creme de cacao and coffee liqueur. I love to use my Patron XO Cafe but you could also use Kahlua. Mix them all up and pour into a brandy glass or martini glass. Finish it with a topping of whipped cream, and if you really feel like spoiling yourself, drizzle with a little chocolate syrup. Or you could just sprinkle some chocolate shavings on the cocktail and top it with an espresso bean.

- 3 scoops vanilla ice cream
- 1 1/2 oz. Patron XO Cafe or other coffee liqueur
- 1 1/2 oz. rum
- 1/2 oz. Creme de Cacao
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
- Serve in a brandy snifter or a tall milkshake glass.
