    Island Breeze Vodka Cocktail

I have been looking for blood oranges for the past couple of years and finally saw an advertisement that they were carrying them in my local Fresh Market. Needless to say, I hopped in the car and headed there to pick some up.

One of the main reasons I wanted blood oranges was for their unique taste, kind of a cross between a grapefruit and an orange, and their gorgeous color. Cutting one open and seeing that vibrant reddish purple color just makes me want to add it to a cocktail. So that's what I did!

My husband and I travel to the Florida Keys quite often and two of our favorite drinks are a Sea Breeze and a Bay Breeze.  I wanted the blood orange flavor to stand out in the drink so I decided to go with a drink based on the sea breeze.

I substituted blood orange juice for the grapefruit juice, added the typical cranberry juice then upped the orange taste with Cointreau. It was absolutely delicious! And my husband agreed. He's the expert on the Sea Breeze so that was a big compliment indeed.

The recipe below can easily serve 4 people if served in martini or smaller-type glasses. I served ours in tall thin  glasses and, I have to say, that cocktail had a real punch!  It was a great afternoon and perfect for sitting on the back porch and enjoying the warm breezes. You'll be thinking beach vacation after a few of these.
