    Pretzel Bites Ingredients

You only need 5 simple ingredients and some water to make these soft pretzel bites. The exact measurements are in the printable recipe card below.

Pretzel bites with pizza dough ingredients.
    • Pizza dough - homemade or store-bought. Pillsbury pizza dough works great.
    • Baking soda
    • Egg
    • Butter
    • Coarse sea salt
    • Water

Use gluten-free pizza dough if you want to make gluten-free pretzel bites.

How to Make Pretzel Bites with Pizza Dough

Here are the simple steps for making pretzel bites out of pizza dough. To begin, preheat the oven to 500°F while preparing the pretzel bites as shown below.

Steps to make homemade pretzel bites.
    1. Roll out your store-bought pizza dough into a 12" x 8" rectangle. Cut into 4 2" wide strips.
    2. Roll them into a long rope-like log and cut each strip into 12 1" pieces.
    3. Boil water in a large saucepan, making sure there is at least 4" of space from the water line to the lip of the pan. Once boiling, add the baking soda. It will foam up considerably. Drop half of the pretzel bites into the water and cook for about 1 minute. Remove with a slotted spoon to a parchment-lined cookie sheet. Repeat with the other half of the bites.
    4. Sprinkle with coarse salt.
    5. Place the cookie sheet in the oven and bake them for 7-8 minutes or until they are a rich golden brown.
    6. Remove them from the oven and immediately brush them with melted butter.

Best when devoured hot right out of the oven. Dig in, dip it, and find out how addictive these soft pretzel bites can be.

    Air Fryer Pretzel Bites

How to cook pretzel bites in the air fryer:

    • Prepare the dough as directed.
    • Preheat the air fryer to 350°F.
    • Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray.
    • Place dough pieces in a single layer in the basket.
    • Air fry them for 6 to 7 minutes or until done.
    • Remove them from the air fryer, brush them with melted butter, and sprinkle them with coarse salt.

    Recipe Tips

Don't fill the pot to the top with water. Be sure to use a large enough pot so the water is at least 4 inches below the rim. When you add the baking soda it will bubble up and overflow if it's too full.

Because ovens can vary in temperature, check the pretzel bites after 7 minutes of baking. You want them to be golden brown on the outside and cooked through on the inside. If you prefer them to be darker brown and crunchier outside, leave them in the oven for 1 or 2 minutes longer.

    Recipe Variations

Do you enjoy flavored pretzels? Want something other than ordinary salted pretzel bites? Here are some flavor ideas and what you can sprinkle on the pretzels:

    • Cheese Pretzel Bites with grated parmesan or romano cheese.
    • Cinnamon Pretzel Bites with cinnamon sugar.
    • Garlic Pretzel Bites with garlic salt.
    • Peanut Butter Pretzel Bites with peanut butter powder.
    • Ranch Pretzel Bites with ranch seasoning.
    • Spicy Pretzel Bites with a spicy seasoning blend.
