Winter calls for a hot drink to keep you warm and cozy and this Kahlua Hot Chocolate will do just that! Chocolaty hot cocoa mixed with vanilla and a little cinnamon then kicked up with Kahlua. Believe me, it will hit the spot!
There isn’t a whole lot of winter in southern Florida but when we do get a blast of cold air, like 39 degrees (OK you can stop laughing now), we Floridians need coats and a hot drink. That’s when I reach for my favorite drink, a Kahlua Hot Chocolate.
I don’t know what it is about a hot chocolate that always seems to warm me from the inside out. It might be the richness, the little bit of sweet or the incredible chocolaty goodness. Maybe it has something to do with the claim that chocolate makes people happier (I’ve got to agree with that). Or maybe it’s just the chance to sit down and relax and let your mind wander as your hands are warmed by the full mug. Whatever it is, I love this stuff!
I’ve been making this drink for many years and, when I made some Kahlua Cookies, based on this drink, this past October, I decided it was time to share this yummy beverage with everyone too.
It’s simple to make in the microwave, taking less than 5 minutes before you can dive into your first sip. Just heat milk, cocoa, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a microwave-safe mug until hot. Stir in Kahlua and vanilla and top with your favorite toppings.
I love to indulge since I don’t make this as often as I’d like and top mine with mini marshmallows, whipped cream, chocolate and caramel drizzle, and a few chocolate-covered espresso beans. Doesn’t that just make you want to jump up and go in the kitchen and make some? I think I’m drooling over here and wishing I had one beside me right now.
Do you love hot drinks to help you get through the long winter? If you do, check out our Buckeye Cocktail, a peanut butter-chocolate coffee delight, our S’mores Coffee, ’cause who doesn’t love s’mores, and our Spiked Mexican Hot Chocolate. Thankfully (or maybe not so thankfully), there’s plenty of time to make them all before old man winter calls it quits for the year.
By the way, if you are not fond of Kahlua, or don’t drink alcohol, you can always omit it and sub in the same amount of strong coffee. See, we aim to please, so everyone can enjoy getting cozy while sipping on our Kahlua Hot Chocolate!
