    Ingredient Substitutions and Recipe Variations

    • Rolls - Use dinner rolls or slider buns
    • Meat - Change either or both of the ham and bacon with turkey, sausage, or plant-based meat, or leave it off for vegetarian breakfast sliders.
    • Cheese - Instead of Cheddar you can use American, Swiss, Monterey Jack, or Pepper Jack.
    • Veggies - Add some sauteed vegetables such as mushrooms, onions, and/or bell peppers. Spinach and chopped tomatoes are also great options.
    • Spicy - Add some jalapeno peppers or dashes of hot sauce.
    • Glaze - Instead of maple syrup, use honey or simple syrup. Or make it savory with Dijon mustard instead of syrup or use an egg wash instead of a butter-based glaze.

How to Make Hawaiian Roll Breakfast Sliders

The best way to prepare bacon for a crowd - in the oven

    Steps to oven fry bacon.
    1. Lay bacon slices on a foil line baking sheet. Try not to overlap the slices so they cook evenly.
    2. Bake in a 400-degree oven for 15-20 minutes. Lay on a paper towel to absorb excess drippings.

How to make fluffy scrambled eggs

    Making scrambled eggs.
    1. Gather milk, salt, and pepper. Heat bacon fat or oil in a large skillet.
    2. Mix eggs with milk and season with salt and pepper.
    3. Whisk well so that it becomes slightly foamy then add to a hot pan.
    4. Gently stir often to break up the eggs into smaller curds. This will make the eggs nice and fluffy. Cook until done but still moist.

    Layering breakfast sliders

    Slicing Hawaiian rolls in half
    1. Cut Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally.
    Steps to layer sliders.
    1. Lay the bottom half of the Hawaiian rolls in a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
    2. Cover with cheese slices.
    3. Lay ham slices on top of the cheese.
    4. Top with halved slices of oven-fried bacon. (see above for how to prepare bacon in large quantities easily.)
    5. Scatter scrambled eggs on top of the bacon. (Check out the steps above on how to create fluffy scrambled eggs.)
    6. Sprinkle with shredded cheese.
Finishing steps to make breakfast sliders.
    1. Place the top of the rolls on the shredded cheese.
    2. Melt butter in the microwave and mix with the maple syrup.
    3. Brush on top of rolls.
    4. Here you can leave rolls as they are or sprinkle them with poppy seeds or bagel seasoning.
    5. Place in oven and bake for 20 minutes.
    6. Remove from the oven, then cut and serve.

    Recipe Tips

    • A pack of Hawaiian rolls fits in a 9 X 13-inch baking dish. If you don't have one that size, you can trim off the rolls to fit your pan or use a baking sheet.
    • There's no need to separate the rolls, just cut the entire loaf in half horizontally with a long bread knife. You can cut the sliders apart after baking.
    • Be sure to slice the buns in the middle. If the bottoms are too thin they may become soggy and won't hold the weight of the slider.
    • Blot the cooked bacon with paper towels to remove as much grease as you can before assembling the sliders.
    • Use a disposable foil pan for easy cleanup or to take them to a potluck.

What to Serve with Breakfast Sliders

Fresh fruit, hash browns, or fried apples are great sides to serve with the sliders.

    Make Ahead

The Day Of: Assemble everything except the honey butter glaze. Cover and refrigerate it for a few hours until you are ready to bake it. Brush the glaze on right before baking. You may need to add a few minutes to the baking time since it will be chilled.

The Day Before: Cook the bacon and scramble the eggs. Store them in separate airtight containers in the fridge. On the day you are serving it, assemble the dish and bake as directed.

How to Store, Freeze, and Reheat

Store leftover breakfast sliders in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

To Freeze: After the sliders have cooled completely, wrap them individually in plastic wrap. Put the wrapped sliders in a freezer-safe container or heavy-duty plastic freezer bag. Freeze for up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight.

To Reheat: Bake at 350°F for about 5 minutes or until warmed through. If frozen, add a few minutes. You can microwave them for about 30 seconds, but they may become soggy.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to brush the tops with the glaze?

The glaze adds a little sweetness and makes the tops crisp. You can skip using the glaze or use an egg wash instead.

Can I add mayo, mustard, or other sauce?

Yes, you can add condiments or sauces, just note they can make the sliders soggy.

Can I bake the eggs instead of scrambling them?

Yes. Pour the egg mixture into a buttered 9X13-inch pan and bake at 350°F for about 10 minutes or until set. Turn the pan with the baked eggs over the dish with the sliders and let them drop on top of the cheese.

Should I add salt to the eggs?

No. There is plenty of salt in the bacon, ham, and cheese. You don't want the sliders to be overly salty.
