Mermaid Water Rum Punch Cocktail
Summer is here and that means I'm craving some fun, tasty, super tropical cocktails. What's more, they've got to be refreshing and easy to make too! And nothing could be easier than this pretty and fanciful mermaid water rum punch that reminds me of crystal clear Caribbean waters.
What makes this drink so unusual and colorful? It's the Blue Curacao addition, one of my favorite liqueurs, for making pretty summery drinks. Drinks like my Blue Long Island Iced Tea, South Beach Punch Cocktail, and this Mermaid Water always stand out from the rest with their attention-getting turquoise color.
Blue Curacao lends not only the blue color to this drink but a tart orange flavor as well. This flavor complements the coconut rum and lemon flavors for a truly satisfying rum punch. Are you ready to get your mermaid vibe on?

It's a fruity rum punch cocktail with a lovely blue color. A sweet, light drink usually comprised of rum, blue curacao, and some type of fruit juice. The blue mermaid cocktail also goes by the names Tipsy Mermaid Drink, Drunken Mermaid Drink, or Mermaid Water Shot.

Mermaid Water Ingredients
Are you wondering what is in the Mermaid Water drink recipe? It's a combination of all things Caribbean and summery.
Coconut rum - adds the tropical coconut flavor. You can add to the liquor content or change it out for light rum or spiced rum.
Blue Curacao - is necessary to turn the drink that pretty blue-green mermaid color. If you can't find blue curacao you can also use Triple Sec or Grand Marnier with a little blue food coloring.
Peach Schnapps - will surprise everyone sipping this drink by lending it a hint of peach flavor.
Lemonade - is both the main liquid and the sweetener for this rum punch. Limeade can also be subbed for lemonade.
Ingredient Notes
Coconut Rum vs Spiced Rum vs Light or Dark Rum
The coconut rum gives this mermaid water more of a tropical vibe. However, you can also use a combination of spiced and light rum or stick with just the light rum.
I would advise against using dark rum as the flavor is too bold and its addition will affect the color of the cocktail.
Garnishes
Garnishes make this drink even more colorful. Use fruits that match the flavors in the drink or as a pop of color. And don't forget the little drink umbrellas!
- Lemon slices
- Orange slices
- Peach slices
- Cherries
- Tropical drink umbrellas
Sugar Rim
Decorate the rim of the glass with something sweet. First, rub the rim with a lemon or lime then dip into a mix of colored sanding sugars or edible glitter. Plain sugar will work as well.

- Blue Curacao - any orange-flavored liqueur plus blue food coloring
- Coconut Rum - substitute white or spiced rum or in addition to coconut rum
- Lemonade - substitute pineapple juice
- Sparkling - add sparkling water, champagne, club soda, or lemon-lime soda for a little bubbly
- Edible Glitter - or colored sugar is particularly pretty on the rim or add it right into the glass for a sparkly effect!
