Here’s what you’ll need to make these festive rice krispie treats for Halloween. You'll find the exact measurements in the printable recipe card below.
Rice Krispies Cereal: The classic base for these cereal treats, adding the perfect crunch.
Mini Marshmallows: The key to making these treats gooey and soft! Save some marshmallows to mix in at the end for extra pockets of chewy goodness.
Butter: Unsalted butter is used as the base for melting the marshmallows and adding that delicious buttery flavor.
Pure Vanilla Extract: Adds a subtle hint of flavor to the gooey marshmallow mixture.
Salt: Balances the sweetness and enhances the flavors.
Halloween M&Ms: These add color and chocolatey sweetness. Use the Halloween-themed ones for a festive touch.
Candy Corn: Because what's Halloween without candy corn? It adds a chewy, sweet pop to each bite.
Mini Pretzel Twists: Adds a salty contrast to the sweet marshmallows and candies while bringing extra crunch to the treats.
Sprinkles: Halloween sprinkles are perfect for adding some color and fun to these festive treats!
Green Candy Melts: For a fun drizzle on top, add some melted green candy melts for that extra spooky finish.
Optional Garnishes: After spreading the mixture in the pan, top with more M&Ms, pretzels, candy corn, and colorful sprinkles for a more festive look.
How to make Halloween rice krispie treats
These treats are so easy to make and come together in just a few simple steps.
- Melt butter in a large saucepan on the stovetop over low heat.
- Divide the marshmallows and place 1 ½ cups marshmallows on the side. Add the remaining marshmallows to the melted butter. Stir constantly until it is completely melted and smooth.
- Remove the pot from the heat and stir in vanilla extract and salt.
- Add Rice Krispies cereal, remaining mini marshmallows, mini pretzel twists, M&M’s, candy corn, and sprinkles. Fold in until combined and evenly distributed.
- Spread the Rice Krispies mixture evenly into a lightly greased and parchment-lined 13x9-inch baking pan. Do not press it down firmly as you will end up with hard treats.
- Melt candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl, pour into a piping bag or a plastic bag with the corner snipped out, and squeeze the candy coating across the top of the treats. Immediately decorate with more candies and pretzels.
Allow the Rice Krispie mixture to cool for 30-60 minutes before cutting. Now watch as the whole family gets into the Halloween spirit when you serve up these easy crispy treats!
Recipe variations to make them your own
These Halloween Rice Krispie Treats are super customizable. Here are some fun ideas to change things up:
Drizzle with Chocolate or White Chocolate: Instead of candy melts, drizzle melted dark chocolate chips or white chocolate chips over the top for a more classic finish.
Change Out the Color: Instead of green candy melts, try white candy melts, black candy melts, or both!
Add Peanut Butter: Stir in ¼ cup of creamy peanut butter into the melted marshmallow mixture for a nutty twist.
Pretzel Twists: Instead of twists, use sticks, snaps, crisps, or waffles - either whole or broken into pieces.
Switch Up the Cereal: Try using Cocoa Krispies or Cocoa Pebbles for a chocolatey base or Corn Flakes for a different texture and flavor.
Use Other Candies: Swap out the candy corn and M&Ms for other Halloween-themed candies like Reese’s Pieces, candy eyes. gummy worms, or spooky gummy eyeballs.
Make Them Spooky Shapes: Use Halloween-shaped cookie cutters (like pumpkins, ghosts, or bats) to cut out fun shapes from the cooled treats.
How to store the treats and how long they last
Store any leftover treats in an airtight container at room temperature. To keep them from sticking together, separate layers with parchment paper.
These treats are best eaten the same day but will last on the counter for 2 days. Refrigeration is not recommended.

Halloween Rice Krispie Treats
Ingredients
- ½ cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
- 14 ounces mini marshmallows divided
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- 7 cups rice krispies cereal
- 1 cup Halloween M&Ms
- 1 cup candy corn
- ¾ cup mini pretzel twists
- ¼ cup sprinkles
- ¼ cup green candy melts for drizzling (optional)
- Garnish: additional Halloween M&Ms, mini pretzels, candy corn and sprinkles (optional)
Instructions
- Prep a 9x13-inch baking pan by lightly greasing with cooking spray then line with parchment paper. The cooking spray will help keep the parchment paper in place when pouring in the Rice Krispies mixture. It also makes it easier to remove the treats for cutting.
- Melt the butter in a large pot on the stovetop over low heat.
- Measure out 1 ½ cups marshmallows and set aside to mix in later. Add the rest of the marshmallows to the melted butter, stirring constantly, until the mixture is totally melted and smooth.
- Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
- Fold in the cereal, remaining mini marshmallows, mini pretzel twists, M&M’s, candy corn, and sprinkles until combined and evenly distributed.
- Spread the Rice Krispies mixture evenly into the prepared baking pan using a silicone spatula. Do not press it down firmly as you will end up with hard treats.
- If using, melt the candy melts in a piping bag in the microwave on the low or defrost setting until fully melted. Massage the bag every 30 seconds to ensure even heating.
- Allow the candy melt mixture to cool for 5 minutes before snipping a small piece off the tip and drizzling it over the prepared treats. Immediately top with additional toppings such as more M&M’s, pretzels, candy corn, and sprinkles if desired.
- Allow the treats to cool on the counter for 30 minutes to 1 hour before cutting into squares.
