This chocolate strawberry banana smoothie couldn't be easier or more delicious. It's a combination of two of everyone's favorite flavors, chocolate and strawberries. So it's a must for all you chocolate lovers out there that want flavor and healthy in one sweet treat. Enjoy!
Recipe Variations
- Add almond butter or peanut butter for an extra boost of protein and a little nutty flavor.
- Use other berries - blueberries or raspberries also pair nicely with chocolate.
- Add a teaspoon of cacao powder or cocoa powder if using chocolate protein powder for some extra dark chocolate richness.
- Add a touch of sweetness with honey, stevia, or a date.
- Make it a green smoothie by adding a handful of greens such as kale or spinach. Or you can add a teaspoon or two of spirulina powder.
- No banana - use ½ of avocado instead.
Make Ahead
Place all the smoothie ingredients except the milk in a small plastic freezer bag. Freeze it until ready to make the smoothie (for up to 3 months).
When ready to make the smoothie, pour the milk into the blender and add the frozen ingredients. Blend on low then increase the speed after the frozen ingredients have broken up a little.
How to Store and Freeze
Smoothies are best right after blending. However, if you have leftovers and you want to save them, here's what to do:
Store any smoothie leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Stir or shake it before drinking because it may separate.
Freeze smoothie leftovers in a freezer-safe container or plastic freezer bags for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight. For a usual smoothie texture, blend it again with ice cubes. Tip: Freeze almond milk in ice cube trays to use for reblending smoothies.
Or you can freeze smoothie leftovers in popsicle molds to make popsicles like these chocolate cherry smoothie popsicles.
