    Healthy Chocolate Berry Smoothie Recipe

Hey, chocoholics, this one is for you! A chocolate strawberry smoothie is a perfect way to start your day, recover from a workout, or sneak in more fiber.

I love to kick-start my day by blending up a smoothie that knocks it out of the ballpark nutrition-wise. And this strawberry chocolate smoothie with its smooth and creamy blend of chocolate and fresh strawberries not only tastes just like you're eating chocolate-covered strawberries but it's good for you too! Now how cool is that?

Smoothies are so sweet and tasty that you feel like you're eating dessert, but they can be really good for you at the same time. I've made other healthy smoothies, like a Blueberry Coffee Protein Smoothie, Chocolate Blackberry Smoothie, and Strawberry Banana Smoothie Bowl  - and enjoy getting my nutrition in something that tastes so good!

Why You'll Love This Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie Recipe

When you don't have time for complicated recipes, make this easy chocolate strawberry banana smoothie. It's a quick and easy recipe, taking only five minutes to throw together. All you have to do is place everything in the blender, blend, and go.

By adding some yogurt and protein powder, you're fortifying it with extra protein, making this chocolate and strawberry smoothie a high-protein snack.

You can even take it with you and store it in the fridge for lunch. It won't be frozen but, believe me, it's just as good.

    Ingredients

Ingredients for chocolate strawberry banana smoothie.
    • Frozen strawberries - the best are fresh ones that you've frozen
    • Banana - sliced and frozen
    • Vanilla Greek yogurt - or opt for a non-dairy alternative
    • Milk - any milk will work such as 2%, almond, cashew, or soy
    • Chocolate protein powder or cocoa powder
    • Maple syrup - totally optional but if you like your smoothie sweeter, a little goes a long way. Try agave or honey as an alternative.

    Optional Toppings

    • Whipped cream or whipped coconut cream
    • Chopped fresh strawberries
    • Chocolate shavings
    • Chocolate covered strawberry

This chocolate strawberry banana smoothie couldn't be easier or more delicious. It's a combination of two of everyone's favorite flavors, chocolate and strawberries. So it's a must for all you chocolate lovers out there that want flavor and healthy in one sweet treat. Enjoy!

    Recipe Variations

    • Add almond butter or peanut butter for an extra boost of protein and a little nutty flavor.
    • Use other berries - blueberries or raspberries also pair nicely with chocolate.
    • Add a teaspoon of cacao powder or cocoa powder if using chocolate protein powder for some extra dark chocolate richness.
    • Add a touch of sweetness with honey, stevia, or a date.
    • Make it a green smoothie by adding a handful of greens such as kale or spinach. Or you can add a teaspoon or two of spirulina powder.
    • No banana - use ½ of avocado instead.

    Make Ahead

Place all the smoothie ingredients except the milk in a small plastic freezer bag. Freeze it until ready to make the smoothie (for up to 3 months).

When ready to make the smoothie, pour the milk into the blender and add the frozen ingredients. Blend on low then increase the speed after the frozen ingredients have broken up a little.

    How to Store and Freeze

Smoothies are best right after blending. However, if you have leftovers and you want to save them, here's what to do:

Store any smoothie leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Stir or shake it before drinking because it may separate.

Freeze smoothie leftovers in a freezer-safe container or plastic freezer bags for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight. For a usual smoothie texture, blend it again with ice cubes. Tip: Freeze almond milk in ice cube trays to use for reblending smoothies.

Or you can freeze smoothie leftovers in popsicle molds to make popsicles like these chocolate cherry smoothie popsicles.
