This refreshing and bright Pineapple White Wine Sangria is the perfect cocktail for summer. Full of summer fruits like pineapple, mango, oranges, and strawberries, soaked in white wine and coconut rum, then topped off with a little bubbly, this drink is sure to hit the spot. Great for sipping on the back porch, entertaining, backyard BBQs or brunches.
I love cool, refreshing cocktails in the summer and this white wine sangria recipe hits all the right notes. It has plenty of fresh fruit, including an extra dose of fruitiness from pineapple juice, a bottle of white wine, and a little rum and prosecco for a bit more of an alcoholic punch.
My tastes always tend towards islandy cocktails like Mermaid Water Drinks and Sea Breeze Cocktails but this pineapple sangria with its fruit-forward taste and the addition of coconut rum definitely fits right in.
Of course, the surprise floater is actually a scoop of pineapple sorbet! You just can't go wrong with that! Perfect for backyard BBQs, pool parties, get-togethers, or a quiet night just for two.
Why You'll Love This Pineapple Sangria
- Light and refreshing for summer
- Full of bright fruit flavors
- Easy to make by the pitcher
- Can be made ahead for parties except for the bubbly
- Totally customizable to fit the season and your tastes
- And it's bubbly!
Best white wine for sangria
Stick to white wines that are dryer, crispy, and with more acidity such as Pinot Grigio, Albarino, Moscato, Sauvignon Blanc, and even a rose. It doesn't have to be a top-of-the-line wine but one that is tasty enough that you would drink by itself.
What fruit can I add to sangria
There are so many delicious combinations of fruits to add to this summery sangria. Mangoes, strawberries, raspberries, oranges, lemons, grapes, peaches, kiwi, and pineapple all work well. Choose the fruit combinations you like best or ones that might have a similar flavor to the notes of the white wine you choose.
Variations
- Other wines - try a white sangria with an unoaked chardonnay, pinot grigio, or sauvignon blanc
- Other bubbly - replace the Prosecco with champagne, sparkling water, sprite, or ginger ale
- Other liquors - in lieu of ⅓ cup coconut rum, or in place of, add ⅓ cup tequila, vodka, or gin for a more potent sangria.
- Other liqueurs - for additional flavor add ¼-1/3 cup brandy, cognac, Cointreau, Grand Marnier, Triple Se,c or Elderflower
- Other fruits - Great combinations include pineapple mango, orange pineapple, and watermelon pineapple sangria
- Herbs - Add sprigs of mint in the sangria or as a garnish
Ingredients
You'll need just 5 ingredients for this refreshing Moscato Wine Sangria.
White Wine - it is important to choose a wine that you would drink by itself as it is a strong influence on the overall flavor of any white wine sangria. In this recipe, I used a sweeter Moscato eliminating the need for an additional sweetener.
Liquor - this sangria is a bit more tropical than some with the addition of coconut rum. You can substitute other liquors and liqueurs for the rum to fit your tastes. (see variations)
Fruit Juice - pineapple juice is used both as a sweetener and for flavor.
Fruit - I love the combination of pineapple, oranges, and strawberries. The mango adds a bit more of an islandy edge to the drink.
Bubbly - my favorite go-to for bubbly cocktails is always prosecco, a less expensive alternative to champagne. You can also use Sprite or even club soda for a less alcoholic sangria.
How to Make White Wine Sangria
- Place cut-up fruit in a large pitcher.
- Pour in pineapple juice.
- Add coconut rum.
- Pour in Moscato or white wine of your choice. Place in refrigerator for two hours but better if allowed to chill overnight.
Pro Tip: Sangria gets better the longer it chills. The flavors will marry together and the overall drink will become more flavorful and sweeter.
- When ready to serve, fill the glass(es) with ice then add pieces of fruit from the pitcher. Pour sangria over fruit.
- Top with chilled champagne, prosecco, or Sprite.
- Add a scoop of pineapple sorbet or sherbet to the top and serve. This will not only add to the flavor but help keep the sangria cold.
Garnish with wedges of pineapple or slices of orange and a sprig of mint. Cheers!
Storing/Freezing
Sangria will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 days without the carbonated beverages added. If you freeze the mixture, it can be blended to make a slushy, pour it into a popsicle mold or just thaw and sip with a little added bubbly.
What Goes Well with White Sangria
I like to serve this pineapple sangria with appetizers. It will pair well with cheeses and charcuterie boards, cocktail meatballs, burger sliders, shrimp crostini, Caprese Empanadas, or dips like guacamole just to name a few.
